Working Dead; common to most Companies!

The Working Dead (When Employees Turn Into Zombies) [INFOGRAPHIC]

Are you working with a zombie?
No, we’re not talking about the actual living dead – more like the passive, slow-moving and (seemingly) lifeless employees that have overrun various offices, businesses and organizations.
http://qatarlaborupdate.blogspot.com/2014/11/working-dead-common-to-most-companies.html

People may not notice it, but some workspaces are slowly turning into the realm of the working dead. And for all we know, you might even be working on a post-apocalyptic office full of zombies and running a very high risk of getting bitten and infected.

Time to save yourself, your company and your job from the working dead. Prepare, stack some ammo, and make sure you survive by reading this helpful guide!

AWARENESS ABOUT THE RAPE DRUG

VERY IMPORTANT!  Please be warned and make others aware about it. ...

A woman at a nightclub (Mumbai) on Saturday night was taken by 5 men,
who according to hospital and police reports, gang raped her before dumping her at a Bus stand in Mumbai.
Unable to remember the events of the evening, tests later confirmed the repeat rapes along with traces of rohypnol in her blood. ...

Rohypnol, date rape drug is an essentially a small sterilization pill. The drug is now being used by rapists at parties to rape AND sterilize their victims. All they have to do is drop it into the girl's drink. The girl can't remember a thing the next morning, of all that had taken place the night before. Rohypnol, which dissolves in drinks just as easily, is such that the victim doesn't conceive from the rape and the rapist needn't worry about having a paternity test identifying him months later. The Drug's effects ARE NOT TEMPORARY -
they are PERMANENT.

Any female that takes it WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO CONCEIVE. The rapists can get this drug from anyone who is in the vet school or any university. It's that easy, and Rohypnol is about to break out big on campuses everywhere.

Believe it or not, there are even sites on the Internet telling people how to use it.
Please forward this to everyone you know, especially girls.

Girls, be careful when you're out and don't leave your drink unattended.
(added - Buy your own drinks, ensure bottles or cans received are unopened or sealed;
don't even taste someone else's drink)

There has already been a report in Singapore of girls drink been Spiked by Rohypnol.
Please make the effort to forward this to everyone you know.

HEAT STROKE, ITS CAUSE AND PREVENTION

Heatstroke is caused by prolonged exposure to high temperatures or by doing physical activity in hot weather. You are considered to have heatstroke when your body temperature reaches 104 F (40 C) or higher. High humidity, certain health problems and some medications increase your risk of heatstroke. So does being a young child or older adult.

Heatstroke is the progression of two worsening heat-related conditions. When your body overheats, you first may develop heat cramps. If you don't cool down, you may progress to symptoms of heat exhaustion, such as heavy sweating, nausea, lightheadedness and feeling faint.
Heatstroke occurs if your body temperature continues to rise. At this point, emergency treatment is needed. In a period of hours, untreated heatstroke can cause damage to your brain, heart, kidneys and muscles. These injuries get worse the longer treatment is delayed, increasing your risk of serious complications or death.

CAUSES
Heatstroke can occur in these ways:
·         Exposure to a hot environment. In a type of heatstroke called nonexertional heatstroke, your condition is caused by a hot environment that leads to a rise in body temperature, without strenuous physical activity. This type of heatstroke typically occurs in hot, humid weather, especially for prolonged periods. It occurs most often in older adults and in people with chronic illness.
·         Strenuous activity. In a type of heatstroke called exertional heatstroke, your condition is caused by an increase in body temperature brought on by physical activity in hot weather. Anyone exercising or working in hot weather can get exertional heatstroke, but it's most likely to occur if you're not accustomed to high temperatures.

In either type of heatstroke, your condition can be brought on by:
·         Wearing excess clothing that prevents your sweat from evaporating easily and cooling your body
·         Drinking alcohol, which can affect your body's ability to regulate your temperature
·         Becoming dehydrated, because you're not drinking enough water to replenish fluids you lose through perspiration

SYMPTOMS
·         High body temperature. A body temperature of 104 F (40 C) or higher is the main sign of heatstroke.
·         A lack of sweating. In heatstroke brought on by hot weather, your skin will feel hot and dry to the touch. However, in heatstroke brought on by strenuous exercise, your skin may feel moist.
·         Nausea and vomiting. You may feel sick to your stomach or vomit.
·         Flushed skin. Your skin may turn red as your body temperature increases.
·         Rapid breathing. Your breathing may become rapid and shallow.
·         Racing heart rate. Your pulse may significantly increase because heat stress places a tremendous burden on your heart to help cool your body.
·         Headache. You may experience a throbbing headache.
·         Confusion. You may have seizures, hallucinate, or have difficulty speaking or understanding what others are saying.
·         Unconsciousness. You may pass out or fall into a state of deep unconsciousness (coma).
·         Muscle cramps or weakness. Your muscles may feel tender or cramped in the early stages of heatstroke, but may later go rigid or limp.

Heatstroke follows two less serious heat-related conditions:
·         Heat cramps. Heat cramps are caused by initial exposure to high temperatures or physical exertion. Signs and symptoms of heat cramps usually include excess sweating, fatigue, thirst and cramps, usually in the stomach, arms or legs. This condition is common in very hot weather or with moderate to heavy physical activity. You can usually treat heat cramps by drinking water or fluids containing electrolytes (Gatorade or other sports drinks), resting and getting to a cool spot, like a shaded or air-conditioned area.
·         Heat exhaustion. Heat exhaustion occurs when you don't act on the signs and symptoms of heat cramps and your condition worsens. Signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion include a headache, dizziness or lightheadedness, nausea, skin that feels cool and moist, and muscle cramps. Often with heat exhaustion, you can treat the condition yourself by following the same measures used to treat heat cramps, such as drinking cool, nonalcoholic beverages, getting into an air-conditioned area or taking a cool shower. If your symptoms persist, seek medical attention immediately.

When to see a doctor
If you think a person may be experiencing heatstroke, seek immediate medical help. Call 911 or your local emergency services number.
Take immediate action to cool the overheated person while waiting for emergency treatment.
·         Help the person move to a shaded location and remove excess clothing.
·         Place ice packs or cold, wet towels on the person's head, neck, armpits and groin.
·         Mist the person with water while a fan is blowing on him or her.

PREVENTION
If possible, avoid going to places with excessively high temperatures. Watch the weather report before planning any outdoor activities, especially in summer. If you have to go out door, carry a cap or preferably an umbrella.

If you have to go in hot weather, prepare yourself. Wear a long sleeved cotton shirt that can not only protect your skin but also absorbs the sweat while keeping you cool (cotton is the best choice). This article assumes that you will not be in any extreme high temperatures but if you are, bring enough water (this goes for everyone) because people often meet their deaths in the desert with no water. It would also help to bring sunscreen and a pocket sized fan or hand held fan. It is not a bad idea to take a water spray bottle to frequently spray on the body to rejuvenate the cells. Keep in mind that the cells in the skin can dry creating an osmotic imbalance. High salt content can increase the rate of flow of blood creating a chaotic fluid imbalance. Nourish yourself with moderate amount of protein, carb and plenty of water. Do not just drink water and starve, the body needs other nutrients too.

Try to take frequent breaks to rest the body in the in the shade sometimes.
Limit your exposure directly to the sun's harmful rays, a little heat isn't such a bad thing, but know your limits. Usually the excitement keeps you going but will exhaust you.

Recognize the symptoms of heatstroke. An oncoming migraine is indications of heatstroke so if you get one, get out of the sun fast and try to get indoors. Once the headache starts no matter how much water you drink it will not go away, you might tend to regurgitate or vomit. Other dangerous symptoms are nausea, dizziness and fainting, which, if left ignored could lead to death. Call a doctor if it gets serious.

The onset of exhaustion is an indication of heatstroke and if you can't get inside the building or at least shady place (under the tree or building shade), try to pour some water on your head and wet you clothes and slow down your activities. Carrying a wet towel is not a bad idea. If you sweat the sweat might cool you down and slowly you will regain your strength. Do not count on regaining it faster. There is tremendous variation in people who can tolerate and who cannot. Especially children and elderly are very much prone to heat stroke which can lead to shortness of breath and sudden heart failure. The foremost thing is you should understand your body. It is always better to prevent than to cure. Or you could sit down for a while to regain your strength.

CHILD ABUSE

It seems that child sexual abuse is a new topic but I can assure you from personal experience it is not. Luckily I was not a victim of sexual abuse as a young child. However, I lived in a very poor community and was aware of children abusing one another and people who were older abusing them. In many cases it is a case of experimentation but in many other cases it is an overt sexual attack, for example an older brother on a younger sister.

These are situations where a child has no protection from sexual abuse. If you think in terms of it being an uncle or father or even a mother the circumstances become even more difficult. That is what makes it so hard to explain sexual abuse to a child; the fact that it could be someone the child has trusted and not the serial killer we are all fearful of and on the lookout for, but rather the brother or the cousin that performs an act that scars the child.

How do we let our children know about the potential dangers of sexual abuse?
First of all we must understand we cannot protect them 100 percent of the time, they are vulnerable. Further, there is no child of any race or socio-economic situation that is safe. However most people would agree I think that there would be a direct relationship to there being a history of sexual abuse in the family as an increased risk.

We must let our children know what sexual abuse is without giving them too much information; that is the hard part. One way to approach the situation is letting them know about "good and bad touches." Also, it is important that we make ourselves comfortable with the subject of sexual abuse so our children are comfortable coming to us; when we are comfortable with the subject of sexual abuse that alone takes a little fear out of the subject. It is our job, when we can, to see they are supervised "visually from a distance."

There are books and other materials about sexual abuse we can use to help teach them. Further the internet provides plenty of helpful information. It comes back to staying away from strangers on the outside and being aware of people inside the family. If I were to say what I think is the biggest threat to children regarding sexual abuse, from my personal experience, I think the biggest threat comes of sexual abuse from someone in the family. As I said previously it is not always an overt sexual act rather experimentation but it leaves the same scars.
Children must be armed with the knowledge of what is a good act and a bad act and we must leave the line of communication open so they can come to us at any time.
They only have one childhood.

HOW TO RAISE A FACEBOOK CHILD?

Is there any real method of proper parenting? Is it right to control our children and tell them to do only those things we want them to do just like a programmed robot? Give us your opinion...
Under the video, consider these 10 ways how to be an effective parents:

1. What you do matters.
"This is one of the most important principles," Steinberg tells WebMD. "What you do makes a difference. Your kids are watching you. Don't just react on the spur of the moment. Ask yourself, 'What do I want to accomplish, and is this likely to produce that result?'"

2. You cannot be too loving.
"It is simply not possible to spoil a child with love," he writes. "What we often think of as the product of spoiling a child is never the result of showing a child too much love. It is usually the consequence of giving a child things in place of love -- things like leniency, lowered expectations, or material possessions."

3. Be involved in your child's life.
"Being an involved parent takes time and is hard work, and it often means rethinking and rearranging your priorities. It frequently means sacrificing what you want to do for what your child needs to do. Be there mentally as well as physically."
Being involved does not mean doing a child's homework -- or reading it over or correcting it. "Homework is a tool for teachers to know whether the child is learning or not," Steinberg tells WebMD. "If you do the homework, you're not letting the teacher know what the child is learning."

 4. Adapt your parenting to fit your child.
Keep pace with your child's development. Your child is growing up. Consider how age is affecting the child's behavior.
"The same drive for independence that is making your three-year-old say 'no' all the time is what's motivating him to be toilet trained," writes Steinberg. "The same intellectual growth spurt that is making your 13-year-old curious and inquisitive in the classroom also is making her argumentative at the dinner table."
For example: An eighth grader is easily distracted, irritable. His grades in school are suffering. He's argumentative. Should parents push him more, or should they be understanding so his self-esteem doesn't suffer?
"With a 13-year-old, the problem could be a number of things," Steinberg says. "He may be depressed. He could be getting too little sleep. Is he staying up too late? It could be he simply needs some help in structuring time to allow time for studying. He may have a learning problem. Pushing him to do better is not the answer. The problem needs to be diagnosed by a professional."

5. Establish and set rules.
"If you don't manage your child's behavior when he is young, he will have a hard time learning how to manage himself when he is older and you aren't around. Any time of the day or night, you should always be able to answer these three questions: Where is my child? Who is with my child? What is my child doing? The rules your child has learned from you are going to shape the rules he applies to himself."
"But you can't micromanage your child," Steinberg tells WebMD. "Once they're in middle school, you need let the child do their own homework, make their own choices, and not intervene."

6. Foster your child's independence.
"Setting limits helps your child develop a sense of self-control. Encouraging independence helps her develop a sense of self-direction. To be successful in life, she's going to need both."
It is normal for children to push for autonomy, says Steinberg. "Many parents mistakenly equate their child's independence with rebelliousness or disobedience. Children push for independence because it is part of human nature to want to feel in control rather than to feel controlled by someone else."

7. Be consistent.
"If your rules vary from day to day in an unpredictable fashion or if you enforce them only intermittently, your child's misbehavior is your fault, not his. Your most important disciplinary tool is consistency. Identify your non-negotiables. The more your authority is based on wisdom and not on power, the less your child will challenge it."
Many parents have problems being consistent, Steinberg tells WebMD. "When parents aren't consistent, children get confused. You have to force yourself to be more consistent."

 8. Avoid harsh discipline.
Parents should never hit a child, under any circumstances. "Children who are spanked, hit, or slapped are more prone to fighting with other children," he writes. "They are more likely to be bullies and more likely to use aggression to solve disputes with others."
"There is a lot of evidence that spanking causes aggression in children, which can lead to relationship problems with other kids," Steinberg tells WebMD. "There are many other ways to discipline a child, including 'time out,' which work better and do not involve aggression."

9. Explain your rules and decisions.
"Good parents have expectations they want their child to live up to," he writes. "Generally, parents over explain to young children and under explain to adolescents. What is obvious to you may not be evident to a 12-year-old. He doesn't have the priorities, judgment or experience that you have."
An example: A 6-year-old is very active and very smart -- but blurts out answers in class, doesn't give other kids a chance, and talks too much in class. His teacher needs to address the child behavior problem. He needs to talk to the child about it, says Steinberg. "Parents might want to meet with the teacher and develop a joint strategy. That child needs to learn to give other children a chance to answer questions."

10. Treat your child with respect.
"The best way to get respectful treatment from your child is to treat him respectfully," Steinberg writes. "You should give your child the same courtesies you would give to anyone else. Speak to him politely. Respect his opinion. Pay attention when he is speaking to you. Treat him kindly. Try to please him when you can. Children treat others the way their parents treat them. Your relationship with your child is the foundation for her relationships with others."
For example, if your child is a picky eater: "I personally don't think parents should make a big deal about eating," Steinberg tells WebMD. "Children develop food preferences. They often go through them in stages. You don't want turn mealtimes into unpleasant occasions. Just don't make the mistake of substituting unhealthy foods. If you don't keep junk food in the house, they won't eat it."

JOBS NOT ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR DRIVING LICENSE IN QATAR

The number of residents enrolling in driving schools in Qatar has increased in the past three weeks after the Traffic Department issued a list of non-eligible applicants on August 1 last year, Gulf Times has learnt.

An employee of a driving school said many expatriates had been allowed to take the course despite the ban on 162 specific categories of workers, including laborer, butcher, hotel service worker, welders, cook, gardener, shoemaker, security guard and other low-income jobs.
Some schools have contacted and urged applicants who were rejected before to re-apply again.

Since the new list was printed in Arabic and some terminologies have remained “vague”, the employee admitted that they would normally advice applicants to seek the approval of the Traffic Department first.

“We ask for the applicants’ Qatar IDs and if the profession given in them does not match the one on the list, then we tell them that they are eligible. But if we are not clear, we tell them to go to the Traffic Department to make further enquiries,” he said.

The source also disclosed that housewives sponsored by their husbands were eligible to secure driving licenses; so were  cabin crews, journalists and students aged 18 years and above (under the parents’ sponsorship).
Some categories like photographers, electricians, technicians and cooks are ineligible. “But it would all depend on the approval of the Traffic Department,” the driving school employee added.
An “unofficial list” of categories was released in May and some professionals were banned from applying for driving license.
The source said some terminologies used were “too broad” like “laborer”, “steward” and “sales”. It reportedly confused driving schools and their clients, causing significant revenue drop for one month at least.
“But the latest list has helped us in identifying categories that are not entitled to have the driving license,” he said.
Laborers still constitute one third of the total number of clients of driving schools. Out of 30 applicants, about 10 fall under the laborer category.
With the new list, flight attendants come under the category of eligible applicants as well as household service workers who are under Qatari sponsorship.

SPONSORSHIP AND WORK CONTRACTS IN QATAR

http://www.internations.org/
Expats who wish to work in Qatar require a sponsor to do so. This sponsor is typically their employer. Expats can only work for their sponsor and for nobody else for at least two years. After that time period and with a clearance letter from their sponsor, they are allowed to find a new employer and transfer their sponsorship.
Expats should choose their sponsors wisely as they have a lot of power over foreign employees. For instance, they can refuse to issue the necessary exit visa which allows expats to leave Qatar or ban them from returning to the country for two years. However, there are limits. Sponsors cannot hold on to their foreign worker’s passports, for example, unless they need to complete important paperwork.

Sponsoring your Family

Once expats have found a sponsor, they are in turn allowed to sponsor their own family. For instance, fathers can sponsor their sons until they are 25 (if they are still students) and their daughters until they get married.
However, you have to receive a certain salary and save up some money in order to sponsor your family. Many expats will have to travel ahead to have their own residence visa processed before they can bring their family along. This may take up to two or three months.
Be sure you have a clear understanding of the financial challenges an assignment in Qatar may bring. While all salary payments are tax free, the cost of living can be comparatively high. Many foreign employees have struggled to get by on their salary. Others have sent their family back home when they realized that they could not cover the costs.

Employment Contracts in Qatar

Work contracts are a tricky business in Qatar. Many expats never receive a contract or never get to sign it. In other cases, foreign workers agreed on certain conditions only to find out that their contract was changed upon their arrival in Qatar.
Each work contract has to be attested by the Department of Labor. Contracts may be written in English as well as in Arabic. Do not rely only on the English version, as only the Arabic one is referred to by the Department of Labor in case of a disagreement between employer and employee.

Know Your Rights

Foreign workers and employees are subject to Qatari labor law and enjoy certain rights. For instance, employees should work no more than 6 days per week. More than 8 hours of work should be paid extra, and employees should not have to work more than 10 hours per day at all.
In reality, however, these rules are often disregarded. If  this is the case, you can report the situation to the nearest labor department. Make sure to refer to the Qatar Labor Law in order to support your complaint.
Expats should be especially careful when consulting international recruitment agencies. In some cases, these agencies have charged expats a hefty fee for placing them within a company. Their debt-ridden candidates often realize too late that their Qatari jobs do not pay enough to cover the costs. The creditors often put a lot of pressure on these workers, not shying away from threatening their families.
